I have this pile of sketchbooks in the studio, about 70 in total, dating back to the mid ’90s. My early sketchbooks are filled with holiday sketches and take me straight back to the time and place.
I think when you sit and sketch a place you take so much more in than if you just take a quick snap on your camera and move on. Of course my quandary is what to do with them all. In the first place

Just returned from a voyage on the Azamara “Quest” sailing from the Canaries to Cape Town via many fabulous destinations, not least being St Helena a little pimple of an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Teaching on the 11 sea days was great fun. Our classes were well attended with a great group of really enthusiastic guests. This year’s art holiday was a great success and I am delighted to say Friendship travel have asked me to do it all over again next year.
